Christ University Offers Open Electives

Christ University offered open electives to the students to choose for this semester on 20th November by both online and offline means.

The list of the available electives were displayed to the students on 19th November in their student login. This was done for the students to decide the elective which they were going to choose. The list consisted of both generic and skill electives. Generic electives included courses like Financial Marketing, Investing, Digital Marketing,etc. And the skill electives included skillful courses like languages such as Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese, Playback Theatre, etc. For this semester, new courses such as corporate soft skills and job skills were also available for the students to choose. The Corporate Soft Skills course will help the students to improve their skills such as communication, leadership, public speaking, etc. And the job skills course will help the students to learn skills such as resume writing, better presentation during interview, improving their work performance, etc.

All the courses which were offered had different costs. Some were available for Rs 1500, some for Rs 3000, and course such as Playback Theatre was available for Rs 6000. The online payment was accepted only through the SIB( South Indian Bank) card which all the students have received earlier. All of these courses had limited seats like 10 or 15.

The link for selecting the open elective was opened at 5:00 pm on 20th November. Since then, there was a chaos among the students to book their electives online, so that they can get the course which they desired. Many students found it difficult to book their electives online because of heavy traffic on the university website. Most of the courses got filled within minutes after the link was opened. Also, many of the students could not get their desired electives. And those students who couldn’t book their elective online had to go to the office and stand in a long que to pay the amount offline and select their elective.

These open electives are on two or three days in a week. Students will get credits on completion of the electives. These electives are helpful for the students and allows them to learn something new and creative. Also, it is compulsory for the first year students to complete at least 2 electives, among which one must be a generic elective. It is expected that these electives will commence from the upcoming week.
